Free Bing SERP API in 2026: The Official One Is Gone

By Anurag Pathak· · 16 min read

You searched for a free Bing SERP API, so here is the straight version. Microsoft's own free Bing Search API is gone, and nothing Microsoft sells today replaces it for free. What is left is a handful of third-party SERP APIs that hand out a few hundred to a few thousand Bing queries, and some that charge well under a dollar per 1,000 after that.

Short answer: No official free Bing SERP API exists in 2026. Microsoft retired the Bing Search APIs, free tier included, on August 11, 2025, and its replacement costs $14 per 1,000 calls and returns no raw results. The near-free routes are third-party APIs: free monthly allowances up to 10,000 requests, or Bing queries from $0.60 per 1,000.

We read every official pricing page below on 2026-10-23 and did the maths ourselves. We did not run benchmarks or trial any competitor's product, so you will find no speed or success-rate numbers here. Where a page did not print a figure, we say “not verified” instead of guessing.

What Microsoft retired, and what it sells now

Microsoft's lifecycle notice is blunt. The Bing Search APIs were retired on August 11, 2025. Existing instances were decommissioned, and the product is “no longer available to be used or new customer signup.”

The companion Azure update says the retirement covers the F1 and S1 to S9 resources of Bing Search, and the F0 and S1 to S4 resources of Bing Custom Search. F1 and F0 were the free tiers. They are gone with the rest.

The replacement is not a search API

Microsoft points customers to Grounding with Bing Search, part of its Azure AI agent service. It is a different kind of product. Here is what Microsoft's own documentation says about it:

What it costs

Microsoft's public price feed (the Azure Retail Prices API) lists Grounding with Bing Search at $14.00 per 1,000 transactions, effective 2026-01-01. Custom Search is the same $14.00. The consumer pricing pages rendered blank for us, so this feed is our source. That is about 23 times Serpent's $0.60 Default rate for a web call, for something that cannot hand you a ranked list of URLs.

If you need ranked organic results as data, which is what a SERP API means, Grounding is not it. We cover that gap in more depth in our post on Bing Search API replacements.

What about the Bing Webmaster API?

It exists, and Microsoft documents it, but it is a webmaster-tools interface. It is not a way to pull search results for arbitrary keywords.

The four kinds of “free”

Most “free Bing API” lists mix four different things. They behave very differently once you build on them.

  1. A renewing allowance. A set number of requests every month, no card. Bright Data, Decodo and SerpApi work this way. This is the closest thing to a free tier.
  2. A one-time credit. Dollars or requests you spend once. DataForSEO's $1 and Oxylabs' $5 are this. Good for a proof of concept, then it is over.
  3. A sandbox with dummy data. DataForSEO's sandbox returns the same fields as production, but “every value in them is dummy data.” It tests your parser, not your keywords.
  4. Doing it yourself. You can write your own Bing parser. It costs no API fee, but it costs your time. We cover that below and in how to scrape Bing for free.

The near-free options, one by one

Serpent is first among the paid options because, on the numbers below, its entry rate is the lowest synchronous Bing-capable rate we could verify. We are the publisher, so judge the table, not the order. Where a rival beats us, we say so.

1. Serpent API

Cheapest? Not a claim we will make. At $0.60, Serpent ties DataForSEO's queued rate and is below every other synchronous rate we read at entry level. Decodo's “from $0.15” headline may be lower, but its page does not print a Bing SERP rate, so we could not compare it.

2. Bright Data SERP API

3. Decodo Web Data API

4. SerpApi

5. SearchApi

6. DataForSEO Bing Organic SERP API

7. Oxylabs and Apify, briefly

Oxylabs lists Bing among its search engines and gives a $5 welcome credit. Its public table has rows for Google, Amazon and “other targets” from $1.00 per 1,000, with no separate Bing row, so we cannot give you a verified Bing rate. On Apify, a community-built Bing actor is listed with a “from $0.50 per 1,000 run start fees” price and a per-result charge we could not read. Apify's free plan includes $5 of monthly usage.

Brave Search is a popular “free Bing alternative,” but it runs its own index, so its results will not match Bing's. We look at it in our free Brave Search API guide. For Yahoo and DuckDuckGo see free Yahoo Search API and free DuckDuckGo API.

What free really costs you

The price tag is only part of it. Four costs hide inside “free.”

Your time

A free allowance forces you to build quota tracking and a plan for the day it runs out. A one-time credit means you rebuild your billing assumptions the week it ends. A hand-built parser means you own every change to Bing's page layout.

Throttles on the free plan

Free plans come with hourly ceilings. SerpApi's free plan guarantees 50 successful searches an hour. SearchApi caps usage at 20% of plan credits per hour. A monthly allowance you can only spend 50 searches an hour is a slow allowance.

Terms and rules

Grounding with Bing Search comes with display requirements and sends your customer data outside the Azure compliance boundary, per Microsoft's own page. For any provider, read the terms you accept. If you plan to collect Bing results yourself, check Bing's terms of use and your own counsel's view first. We are not giving legal advice.

Maintenance and support

A DIY parser breaks silently when a page changes, and the only support is you. For a prototype that is fine. For rank tracking that customers rely on, it is not.

Free is great for proving an idea. It rarely survives contact with a real workload. Which is why the interesting question is not “what is free,” but “how little does it cost to stop thinking about it.”

Cost at 1K, 10K, 100K and 1M calls

This is arithmetic from the published rates above, for one Bing web search per call, per month. We ignored free allowances, tax, and extras like search operators. Where a vendor sells fixed monthly plans, we used the cheapest plan that covers the volume.

How to read it

Volume also meets rate limits. 1,000,000 calls a month is about 33,000 a day, above Default's 10,000 a day. Growth allows 50,000 a day, Scale 100,000 and Enterprise 300,000.

How to choose

Quick start and migration

Switching to Serpent is a query parameter. This is the Quick Search call from the API docs:

curl "https://apiserpent.com/api/search/quick?q=best+crm+software&engine=bing&country=us&num=10" \
  -H "X-API-Key: YOUR_API_KEY"

And the same call in Python:

import os
import requests

resp = requests.get(
    "https://apiserpent.com/api/search/quick",
    params={"q": "best crm software", "engine": "bing", "num": 10, "country": "us"},
    headers={"X-API-Key": os.environ["SERPENT_API_KEY"]},
    timeout=60,
)
data = resp.json()
if not data.get("success"):
    raise SystemExit(data.get("message"))

for row in data["results"]["organic"]:
    print(row["position"], row["title"], row["url"])

Run it once in the playground first if you would rather see the JSON before writing code. For People Also Ask, related searches and inline videos, call /api/search (Deep Search) instead. The Bing Search API Python tutorial walks through both.

Mapping from the retired Microsoft response

Microsoft's archived v7 reference put web results under webPages, each with a name, url, displayUrl and snippet. The Serpent equivalents:

Retired Bing v7 fieldSerpent field
webPages.value[].nameresults.organic[].title
webPages.value[].urlresults.organic[].url
webPages.value[].displayUrlresults.organic[].displayedUrl
webPages.value[].snippetresults.organic[].snippet

Position comes with each row as position. Treat any block you rely on as optional and check the metadata.has* flags before reading it.

FAQ

Is there a free Bing search API?

Not from Microsoft. The Bing Search APIs, including their free tiers, were retired on August 11, 2025. Free Bing access today means a third-party SERP API's free allowance, such as 5,000 requests a month at Bright Data, 10,000 at Decodo or 250 at SerpApi, or a one-time trial credit.

What replaced the Bing Search API?

Microsoft points to Grounding with Bing Search in its Azure AI agent service. It feeds web data to an AI model and returns the model's answer with citations. It does not return raw search results, so it is not a drop-in replacement for a Bing SERP API.

How much does Grounding with Bing Search cost?

Microsoft's price feed lists $14.00 per 1,000 transactions for both Search and Custom Search, effective 2026-01-01. Model tokens are billed separately, and free-credit Azure subscriptions are not eligible.

Which SERP API has the biggest free allowance for Bing?

Among the pages we read, Decodo lists up to 10,000 free requests a month and Bright Data 5,000, both with no card. SerpApi offers 250 searches and SearchApi 100 on sign-up. Confirm that the free requests work on Bing in your own account.

Can I get Bing results for free by writing my own parser?

You can, and we explain how in our guide to scraping Bing. It is free in cash and expensive in time, because you maintain the parser yourself. Check Bing's terms of use and your own counsel before collecting results at scale.

What is the cheapest way to get Bing results at volume?

On the published rates we read, Serpent charges $0.60 per 1,000 on Default, falling to $0.03 on Enterprise after a $1,000 deposit. DataForSEO's queued mode is also $0.60 but takes about 5 minutes on average. Decodo's “from $0.15” headline could not be verified for Bing.
